This year’s theme of the National Environmental Health Association Annual Education Conference and Exhibition, Our Oasis in the Desert, celebrates the resilience and renewal at the heart of the environmental health profession.

"Regional-level Solutions" is the third and final webinar in the Extreme Heat Adaptation in Indigenous Communities panel series hosted by the the Desert Research Institute in partnership with the Climate Science Alliance, the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals, and the Collaborative of Native Nations for Climate Transformation and Stewardship (CNNCTS).

The session will offer clear insights into how employers can engage on public health, anticipate developments, and take proactive steps to protect their workforce amid increasing climate-driven risks.

People's Hearing with community members, local leaders, climate advocates, and health experts who will share their stories about the impact of extreme weather. The program will include testimony from folks who have experienced extreme weather and want to see strong climate protections.

Heat poses serious health risks. Keeping It Cool: Heat Preparedness Resources for Community Health Centers will feature experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and health center leaders who are actively preparing for heat-related emergencies. This session will highlight clinical and public-facing tools from the CDC to help providers recognize and respond to heat, as well as practical strategies to integrate heat preparedness into daily operations. Participants will gain resources to better protect patients and staff during heat season.

This conference gathers over 500 professionals throughout Arizona, interested and working in the health disparities field. It touches on all populations and disease topics, and connects research, prevention, clinical, and policy arenas.

Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas that is more potent than carbon dioxide at heating our atmosphere. Reducing methane emissions – with methods including plugging abandoned and orphaned oil and gas wells, improving agricultural practices, reducing food waste, capturing methane from landfills and coal mines, and repairing leaks in oil and gas infrastructure – is critical, but these efforts alone may not be enough. As a result, scientists have begun exploring ways to remove methane directly from the air.  Join this conversation on why methane removal is being considered as part of the portfolio of strategies to manage methane, the different mitigation and methane removal approaches being explored, and challenges associated with advancing these solutions.

An informal public hearing on OSHA's Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings proposed rule is scheduled to be held virtually beginning on June 16, 2025, and continuing through July 2, 2025.

Presented by APHA and Climate for Health, this 3-hour virtual training will equip participants with tools to engage clinicians, public health professionals, policymakers and community members in taking action on extreme heat and health issues.
