When

5:30 – 7:30 p.m., May 29, 2025

This Science Café will bring together local and national experts to discuss the impact of extreme heat on farmworkers. The Science Café will include a screening of the documentary film "Too Hot to Work". Café participants will explore how a warmer climate may transform the way individuals work and appreciate the critical need for collaboration among workers, businesses, and governments to mitigate heat risk. This event will feature panel discussions from local experts, community representatives, and epidemiologist and filmmaker Jason Glaser of La Isla Network* to examine strategies for addressing heat risk among those who labor outdoors, particularly farmworkers. The Café intends to connect community members, researchers, government representatives, and experts for analysis of protective factors and potential actions that enhance heat resilience.

La Isla Network (LIN) is a health research and advisory organization dedicated to ending heat-related injury, illness, and death among workforces worldwide. LIN develops data-driven worker protection interventions and conducts management of change, improving the resilience of workforces and businesses to the risk of heat exposure. LIN drives lasting change by working with governments and multilateral institutions to inform and create policy..
