May 05 Extreme Weather and Lessons for More Resilient Communities (Washington DC & Virtual) All Day, May 5 – 6, 2025 Through examination of three recent events, this Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (BASC) open session seeks to advance understanding of the characteristics, impacts, and changing nature of current extreme events; highlight lessons and gaps for resilience to such extreme events; and identify needs and contributions from the scientific community to advance knowledge of and resilience to these extremes. This session will focus on three case studies: wildfires in Los Angeles, the 2024 Phoenix AZ extreme heat, and extreme rainfall and flooding in Western NC from Hurricane Helene.
